Augmedics, a developer of augmented reality surgical image guidance, has appointed Rick Anderson as executive board chairman and Bradley Paddock as independent director. Anderson joined the board in March upon the closing of Augmedics’ over-subscribed $36 million Series C funding, followed by Paddock in May. “Rick and Brad have provided invaluable guidance from the start,” said Nissan Elimelech, CEO and founder of Augmedics. “We are delighted to have the leadership of these two renowned industry veterans as we continue to bring xvision to surgeons across the U.S. and revolutionize the way spine surgery is done.” Anderson brings more than three decades of experience as an executive, investor, and board member for emerging growth and market-leading healthcare companies. He is the chairman of Revival Healthcare Capital, an Austin-based private equity firm that specializes in medical devices and diagnostics. Prior to founding Revival, Anderson held multiple senior executive leadership positions, including board chairman and CEO of ConvaTec plc, a FTSE 250 company; worldwide franchise chairman, Cordis Corporation; and company group chairman, Johnson & Johnson. Paddock is a veteran medical device executive with more than 25 years of experience. He currently serves as president and CEO of CeQur SA, a medical device company specializing in insulin delivery systems, and has served in executive leadership roles for multiple global health leaders including global president of spine at Stryker Corp., vice president of global sales and marketing at Bausch + Lomb, and vice president of sales at Kyphon. Paddock brings extensive expertise in acquisitions, integrations, and synergistic cost saving methods. “Augmented reality and surgical navigation are the future of surgery, and with Augmedics, that future is now,” said Anderson. “Bringing ‘X-ray vision’ to surgeons is no longer just a dream—it’s our reality. We’re excited to continue the mission with Nissan and the Augmedics team to bring xvision to surgeons and patients around the world.” Augmedics (Chicago) is an augmented reality surgical image guidance pioneer that aims to improve healthcare by augmenting surgery with cutting edge technologies that solve unmet clinical needs and instill technological confidence in the surgical workflow. Its U.S. Food and Drug Administration-cleared revolutionary xvision Spine System, the first augmented reality guidance system for surgery, allows surgeons to “see” the patient’s anatomy through skin and tissue as if they have “X-ray vision,” and to accurately navigate instruments and implants during spine procedures.
